Senior Design Project involved selecting a building type (eg: Hospital / Club / Bars / Resort etc) and designing any two spaces of your choice within the facility. The building type chosen was a resort and the areas designed were the reception area and aisle area around the retail shops within the resort.
The resort structure was designed to reflect contemporary feel using traditional elements from the surroundings such as the oyster.
Khaimas have been used here as a separate stand alone unit on a raised platform, for outdoor seating arrangement instead of modern day benches to maintain the traditional culture of Arab civilization.
The resort reception area has combination of modern and traditional elements as well. The reception desk design was again inspired from the shape of a shell and combined with pergolas which were used often in the Islamic architecture. Also, use of heavy wooden doors, and colors and pattern of the carpet reflect Islamic / Arab influence.
The resort aisle area surrounding retail shops has Arabic influence as well which is demonstrated with the use of arch shaped window displays, columns, lanterns and heavy wooden doors.
